As the leading carrier in Turkey,
Turkcell provides telecommunication and technology services to 35 million customers
across the country. In 2015, we launched an initiative
in the field of financial services. Turkcell Payment and E-Money Services (Paycell) was established
as the first carrier subsidiary to be licensed by the banking regulation authority.
Its goal is to provide accessible and innovative payment services,
not only to bank customers but to everyone. 40% of our customer base is under 25.
This segment’s rapidly growing desire to reach the world of mobile applications
was a very important indicator to us. Most of these customers were either unbanked or refraining
from sharing bank account details online. This prevented them from purchasing apps
on their smartphones. Thanks to our partnership with Google,
we eliminated the need for credit cards. Now our customers can choose their payment method
only by entering their phone numbers. Our postpaid customers add the amount to their monthly phone bill, while prepaid customers use their TL balances.
Google – Paycell collaboration allowed us to make a number of innovations that increased
penetration on Android’s large user base and enhanced customer loyalty. As a result, 1.1 million customers used Paycell as a mobile payment method on Google Play.
As of the first half of 2017, our customers making their first mobile payment transactions constituted 25% of Paycell users.
The seamless experience we offer on Android played a vital role in achieving this success. We aim to provide the perfect payment experience in mobile apps. Google is our strategic partner, with whom we shape the customer centric campaigns along this path.
We will continue to collaborate on many future projects that will accelerate digitalization of Turkey.
