Tourism campaign to highlight “The Springfield you don’t know”


SATURDAY… RICH: THE OPENING OF THE CASINO WILL BRING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO SPRINGFIELD. TAMI: 22NEWS REPORTER TAYLOR DICHELLO IS LIVE IN SPRINGFIELD WITH A NEW CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE THE CITY. TAYLOR: TODAY MAYOR DOMENIC SARNO IS ANNOUNCING A NEW INITIATIVE THAT WOULD TELL VISITORS ABOUT “THE SPRINGFIELD YOU DON’T KNOW”. HE SAYS THE IDEA IS TO TELL ENGAGING STORIES ABOUT ASPECTS OF THE CITY LIKE THE DR. SEUSS MUSEUM, START-UP COMPANIES, AND THE HISTORY OF SPRINGFIELD INCLUDING ARMORY NATIONAL PARK AND THE HISTORY MUSEUM. SARNO SAYS THESE STORIES WILL HELP RESIDENTS HIGHLIGHT POSITIVE PARTS OF SPRINGFIELD INSTEAD OF WHAT HE CALLS “HALF-TRUE STORIES FROM THE CITY’S DIFFICULT DAYS”. THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS IS FUNDING THE CAMPAIGN THROUGH DONATIONS. BUT PRESIDENT OF THE E-D-C, RICK SULLIVAN, TOLD 22NEWS, THERE HAS BEEN NO FINANCIAL COMMITMENT TO THE CAMPAIGN SO FAR.
