NASA Software Helps Speed Air Travelers On Their Way

(Music) NASA is working on solutions to reduce travel delays. Together with federal and industry partners, NASA is leading a field test called “ATD-2”, or Airspace Technology Demonstration 2. The tests are underway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. ATD-2 offers new tech to improve the flow of aircraft into and out of major airports. New software was added to airport towers that schedule the movements of aircraft and ground vehicles. During the ATD-2 tests, the software coordinates scheduling by the FAA and airlines, making arrivals and departures more predictable. That means less time waiting at the gate. No long lines waiting to take off or to land! (Music)
