(inspiring music) – My name is Alloyce Ongou, my friends call me Al, and I am a Travelers EDGE Scholar. I was born and raised in Kenya and I learned very simple
and profound lessons and I learned very simple
and profound lessons about the power of
generosity from my mother. In my life, I have always
wanted to get a college degree. Something that I was not able to get back in my country of origin
because I couldn’t afford it. When I got the opportunity
to come to America, initially I was to end up my
school at a two-year college, initially I was to end up my
school at a two-year college, but when the EDGE Program got me in, I got a boost to go to
a four-year college. When I joined the EDGE Program, I got a scholarship that
enabled me to go to school. In addition to that, I got
an internship at Travelers. In addition to that, I got
an internship at Travelers. I was mentored from the
first day that I went in. It was such a fulfilling, rewarding, and I would say I had a lot of
fun there, I learned so much. When I went to Travelers I had
like nine LinkedIn contacts, now I have 38. As part of Pathway Program, I also was able to go out and work for Prepare + Prosper as a volunteer and help families that are constrained get their taxes done for free. So, the EDGE Scholarship
and the Pathways Program, I think they kind of build you up so that you are a whole and
ready to go out and work. All my three kids are
going through college. One graduated last May, one is a junior, one is a sophomore, and their father, who happens to be me, will be graduating this coming fall. I am so proud. My mother was here to be with
me during their graduation. My mother was here to be with
me during their graduation. And I’m keeping my mother
under the Travelers umbrella And I’m keeping my mother
under the Travelers umbrella so that she’s fully
protected until I graduate. so that she’s fully
protected until I graduate. The EDGE Program is a great program. It’s my hope and desire that one time It’s my hope and desire that one time I will be in a position to help someone the
