A police statement said witnesses believed the man to be speaking with an English accent. They described the spray attack as “despicable and cowardly”. Superintendent Police Commander Gavin Woods said the man sprayed the 41-year-old driver in the face at least six times. He said: “As a result of that spraying, the bus driver was incapacitated, he wasn’t able to complete his shift. He wasn’t able to complete the route on his bus. “It is despicable behaviour obviously by a coward. “The male bus driver was out working hard, working for the community, driving a bus full of commuters and for that, he’s attacked.” Troy Grant, New South Wales Police Minister, said it was “unacceptable behaviour” and urged the man to hand himself in to police. The State Transit driver was said to be suffering with shock after the incident and showed symptoms consistent with pepper spray. Head of safety at State Transit Wayne Potter said: “This sort of behaviour is just outrageous.”
