With thousands of members around the globe — where you find people helping people, you’ll find the Lions. To tell us about the Hawaii Lions upcoming convention and events, we have Jim Bryan, Robert Lee, and Daryl Matsuo. Good morning. Tell us about the Lions Organization. The Lions are a Service Organization that has been around for about 100 years with thousands of members around the globe with members in nearly ever single country. Where you find people helping people – you will find the Lions Tell us about the big convention coming to our islands this week. Approximately 20,000 Lions will be coming from nearly 200 countries to Hawaii this week for the convention that runs from this week until June 30th. What is the economic impact to our state? …. It is estimated that it will bring in nearly 100M in visitor spending and related tax revenue to our state. What happenings or activities will be going on during the convention and is there anything the general public can participate in or should be aware of? Yes – there will be lots of convention related activities for the Lions attending the convention at the Hawaii Convention Center and major host hotels in Waikiki. In particular for the public there will be a huge parade with thousands of Lions in the traditional country outfilts and costumes in the parade thru Waikiki on Saturday June 27th The parade will end at Kapioplani Park where an International festival will take place with food booths, crafters, entertainment, exhibit and more. Both the parade and the festival which also happens again on Sunday will be open to the public. Parking and traffic in the area may be a challenge so plan accordingly with so many people being in the area. Still need volunteers and you don’t have to be a Lion to help with all the activities to show our aloha to the Lions for choosing Hawaii for their convention.
