Getting a tourist sim in Bangkok : Don’t buy at the Airport (AIS vs. DTAC vs TrueMove)

Feeling better after having breakfast otherwise, I was feeling so week that I was walking like this ๐Ÿ˜‰ That is a BTS station I was informed that I will get a sim near this station Now I am going to MBK centre to purchase a SIM People wearing Orange jacket in Bangkok … .. They operate Bike taxi, called ‘Baxi’ He was charging 400 Baht for going Don Mueang airport from this place I am going in this direction (MBK center) Last time I visited SIAM malls located somewhere there Just across those malls is MBK centre That is MBK Centre Too tired ! I wanted to travel light this time With just these 2 small bags however, it still feels very heavy Actually, 1 litre of water itself adds to a lot of weight other than that I am just carrying.. 2 pair of clothes, 1 fleece blanket .. .. few slice of bread and cheese This is one of the entry gates to MBK centre at floor no. 3 It is open from 10 am to 10 pm The time is 11 AM and there is almost no crowd Last time (March 2016) I visited here in the evening. it was very crowded They do not have tourist sim in this ‘True Move’ store They advised me to purchase it from these small shops At the airport, I was getting a TrueMove sim for 299 Baht with 1.5 GB internet data valid for 7 days Now I am going to try at the DTAC store DTAC was providing a sim for 49 Baht and 1GB internet data for 106 baht, valid for 7 days In total, I could get a sim+data for 7 days in 150 baht It is cheaper than the airport’s store but, these people were not friendly So I am going somewhere else That is AIS store So basically, There are 3 major mobile network providers in Thailand TrueMove, DTAC & AIS Now I am going to the AIS store Its my turn now I am going to purchase the sim from AIS I have just purchased a sim for 50 baht from AIS They provide 1GB 4g data for 3 days for free after that you can get 1 more GB data for 106 Baht (including taxes) valid for next 7 days So I’ll use the free data for 3 days and if needed, I’ll recharge for 1 GB data after the third day So, now I have a sim + 1gb data in just 50 baht after 3 days I’ll pay 106 baht for 1 more GB, if needed in total, in 155 baht (50+105), I can enjoy 2 GB data for next 7 days Though, I have also paid 20 baht for 20 minutes of talktime You can also get local sim from these small shops Now, i am going to leave MBK centre I’ll catch a local bus Today I am planning to visit Ayutthaya I’ll be using Free bus to travel MBK center is somewhat like Palika Bazar in Delhi You’ll find many electronics, garments and other stores of major brands here and the most unique thing about this place are the salespersons They are more than happy if you purchase things from them, otherwise.. get ready for their evil eye

  6. MBK is Mahboonklong mall. Very nice for shopping. I used to miss seeing an Indian person travelling and you have gone to great lengths to make these VLogs so it's highly appreciable to see these videos. Also GoPro with the Gimbal gives very good results. Simcards are available extensively throughout BKK. No hassles there.

  7. DTAC gives SIM for 30bhat 1GB data included for 1 day.
For each day you can recharge with 25bhat.

    100BHAT for 7 days
    1 GB data everyday!

  9. Suvarnabhumi airport has all three telecom company shops at the arrival hall. These prices are fixed and definately not any higher or lower then anywhere else. This is a load of bogus.

  12. Boy I really wish I had seen your budget friendly ways to travel smart that would have saved me going bankrupt . I have travelled to Mauritius Thailand Indonesia and Myanmar wuth Nepal Bangladesh Bhutan covered to and on each of those trips I got a serious hit on my bank balance to the point of bankruptcy simply because I simply didn't live drift smart like you. But with your experience I am damn sure I will not be financially bankrupt anymore and will stay on budget. Hats off to you man. I am a fan and really hooked to your videos all day.

  17. wtf?? you are so rude!!! right at the beginning when you walked into the shop – not even hello, how are you, sawadee krup…just immediately ask: where can I get tourist sim? And then you say excuse me like 10x…is there something wrong with your hearing? you must go see a doctor…and learn some manners…those people most probably had tourist sim card but didn't want to sell you because you are rude and aggressive….so you had to go all the way to MBK centre – remember Thai people are polite – they don't like rude and arrogant/aggressive people – you get more bees with honey than with vinegar ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜
