BE A CITY THAT CARES AND A CITY WHERE WE’RE ONE
ALBUQUERQUE, I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE US ACT LIKE ONE
ALBUQUERQUE.>>PLUS, GOVERNOR
LUJAN-GRISHAM’S TIGHTROPE WALK BETWEEN PROTECTING THE
ENVIRONMENT WHILE STILL SUPPORTING THE OIL AND GAS
INDUSTRY. NEW MEXICO InFOCUS STARTS
NOW.>>THANKS FOR JOINING US
THIS WEEK. I’M YOUR HOST, GENE GRANT. NEW MEXICO GOT SOME GOOD
NEWS THIS WEEK ABOUT TOURISM EVEN AS SOME OF OUR SKI
RESORTS SAW THEIR FIRST SNOW OF THE WINTER SEASON. VISITORS SPENT MORE MONEY IN
OUR STATE IN 2018 THAN EVER BEFORE. AHEAD THIS WEEK WE’LL TAKE A
LOOK AT WHAT’S BEHIND THAT JUMP AND BREAK DOWN EFFORTS
TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING. THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE
RECENTLY CHANGED ITS STRATEGY FOR PLANNING AND
ZONING. THE GOAL IS TO CREATE A MORE
UNIFIED APPROACH AND ONE THAT KEPT A REGULATORY
BURDEN TO A MINIMUM WHILE OFFERING PROTECTIONS AND
QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR NEIGHBORHOODS, BUT SOME
COMMUNITY MEMBERS CLAIM THE NEW APPROACH IS ACTUALLY A
THREAT TO THE VERY MAKE-UP OF SOME OF THE CITY’S MOST
UNIQUE AND HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOODS. PLUS, GOVERNOR MICHELLE
LUJAN-GRISHAM IS ENDEAVORING TO DO THE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE,
MOVE OUR STATE BEYOND FOSSIL FUELS WHILE ALSO RELYING ON
THE REVENUES FROM THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY TO FUND
MAJOR STATEWIDE PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES. THE LINE PANELISTS WEIGH IN
ON HOW THAT’S GOING SO FAR. BUT UP FIRST, A LOOK AT
LUJAN-GRISHAM’S UNIQUE STRATEGY FOR DEVELOPING A
PLAN FOR THE UPCOMING 2020 LEGISLATIVE SESSION.
